Arkansas Concludes Fall Season with School Rec

BATON ROUGE, La. - Arkansas put together an outstanding team showing at the University Club Intercollegiate to cap off its fall campaign and came away with a school record score of 32-under-par 832. The Razorbacks' performance earned them runner-up honors and it marked Arkansas head coach Mike Ketcham's 16th career top-five finish.
Every UA golfer shot under par to help the team record a 278 (-10) in today's final round. In the first and second rounds they turned in 275 (-13) and 279 (-9), respectively. Arkansas also led the tournament in eagles (3) and birdies (61), but in the end it was SMU who captured the team title with an 825 (-39).
"We played very well today," Arkansas head coach Mike Ketcham said. "SMU pulled away at the end when they made a few more birdies than us. Our guys have come a long way since the beginning of the year. We putted very well today, which is something we had been working on all season. Overall, I'm very happy. Coming into a tournament you always want to win and we just got beat in the end, but we can handle that."
True freshman Jason Turner led the Razorback team and tied for fourth place with an 11-under-par 205. He put up a 69 in the second and third rounds, but his best performance came in the opening round when he fired a season-low 67. Turner, a native of Little Rock, Ark., was just two strokes from taking the individual title. That honor went to Baylor's Jeremy Alcorn (203).
Sophomore Matt Bortis also shot a season-low in the first round when he carded a 68. In the second round he shot a 69 and in today's final round he registered a 71. He tied for a season-best ninth place with an eight-under-par 208. It was his fourth top-20 tournament finish.
Redshirt freshman Scotty Campbell was one stroke behind Bortis and tied for 11th place with a 209 (-7). His finish was a career-best and he also improved his career-best round when he shot a 67 in the third round. In the first and second rounds he carded 69 and 73, respectively.
True freshman Will Osborne also notched a season-best finish when he tied for 13th place with a score of 210 (-6). He recorded 71 in the first and third rounds. His second round score of 68 was his best of the season.
Junior Josh Farrell was able to move up the leader board and tied for 53rd when he turned in his best round of the tournament. In the final round he shot a 71, to go with his first and second rounds scores of 75 and 73, respectively. His performances gave him a three-over-par 219.
The University Club Intercollegiate marked the end of Arkansas fall schedule and the Hogs will not compete until February 2005, when they travel to Kona, Hawaii for the TaylorMade Intercollegiate on Feb. 9-11.
