Arkansas Finishes 10th at Notre Dame Invitatio

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - All five Razorback golfers improved in the final round of the Notre Dame Invitational to move Arkansas up the leader board to finish in 10th place. UA had its best showing on Sunday when the Hogs combined to shoot a 291 on the par 71, 6,905-yard Warren Golf Course. They ended the three-day tourney with a 908 (+68). In the first and second rounds the Hogs registered scores of 305 and 312, respectively.
Kent State came away with the team trophy with a 31-over-par 871. Michigan State was only two strokes back in second with an 873 (+33).
"We played a lot better today," Arkansas head coach Mike Ketcham said. "We did a better job of controlling our emotions and not panicking when something bad happened. The younger guys are going to be able to build off of this. We're excited about getting back into action with our next tournament and playing in a competitive environment. I'm not excited about the overall finish, but today will go a long way in increasing their confidence."
Sophomore Matt Bortis was Arkansas' top finisher when he tied for 14th place with an 11-over-par 221. In the final round he fired an even par 70, to go with his first and second rounds of 78 and 73, respectively. It was his fifth career top-20 tournament finish.
Freshman Will Osborne was five strokes back and tied for 32nd with a 226 (+16). The Wichita Falls, Texas native carded a 72 in the third round, after he posted a 75 in the first round and a 79 in the second. Freshman Allen McFerran turned in first and third round scores of 76. Those performances, along with his second round of 79, placed him in a tie for 47th with a 21-over-par 231.
Freshman Jason Turner was close behind and came away with a three-day total of 232 (+22). Tuner had a significant rebound in the final round when he shot a 74, after he recorded an 82 in the second round and a 76 in the first. His score placed him in a tie for 50th.
In his first competition since rehabbing from injury last year redshirt freshman Scotty Campbell finished in 61st place with a 234 (+24). In Sunday's final round he carded a 75. In the first and second rounds he shot 78 and 81, respectively.
