Arkansas In Second Place at University Club In


BATON ROUGE, La. - The Razorbacks posted two outstanding rounds at the University Club Intercollegiate and are in contention to take the team title as they sit in second place after two rounds of play. The Hogs turned in a 13-under-par 275 and were in first place following the opening round. In the second round they carded a 279 (-9) to give them a total score of 554 (-22) on the par 72, 7,274-yard University Club Golf Course.
"We got off to a good start this morning and performed well as a team," Arkansas head coach Mike Ketcham said. "We made a lot of birdies and really took advantage of the par five holes. As a team we were 21 under on the par fives. This course is set up for our strengths and we putted very well today, which is something we have been concentrating on in practice. Tomorrow we'll stick to the game plan and try to win this tournament."
Arkansas is only five strokes behind the leading team, SMU. The Mustangs have a 27-under-par 549. Georgia Southern and Ole Miss are tied in third with 559 (-17).
True freshman Jason Turner was the UA's top golfer as he shot a 67 in the first round and a 69 in the second. He is tied in third place with a 136 (-8). Turner is only one stroke off the leaders, Will Dodson of SMU and Chris Wells of LSU. Sophomore Matt Bortis is close behind as he fired season low rounds of 68 and 69 to give him a seven-under-par 137. He is tied in eighth place.
Another true freshman, Will Osborne, also carded season-best rounds when he registered 71 and 68 in the first and second rounds, respectively. His performance placed him in a tie for 12th with a score of 139 (-5). Redshirt freshman Scotty Campbell started the day with a career-best 69 in the first round. In the second he turned in a 73 for a total of 148 (+4) and the 23rd position.
Junior Josh Farrell is playing in his first tournament since the 2003 NCAA Championships and he is tied for 62nd place with a four-over-par 148. In the first round he recorded a 75, but went on to improve in the second with a 73.
Arkansas' tee time for the third and final round is set for 9:20 a.m. The University Club Intercollegiate is its final fall tournament.
