FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Razorbacks placed a school-record 22 student-athletes on the 2001 Southeastern Conference Football Academic Honor Roll.
Arkansas' total was the second most in the conference trailing only Vanderbilt which had 28 honorees on the academic roster.
"I am extremely proud of our student-athletes for this accomplishment," Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt said. "Our kids know that school comes first and they have to get the job done in the classroom. We have a very strong academic history with our program and this is just another example of that."
The Razorbacks' 22 honorees this year eclipsed the previous school record of 16 set in 2000. Arkansas has posted its three highest totals on the conference honor roll since Nutt took over as head coach in 1998. The Hogs placed 15 student-athletes on the academic roster in 1998.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year or for their career; be a sophomore or higher in academic classification; and have 24 semester hours countable toward a degree. The 2001 SEC Football Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2000-01 academic calendar.
