Arkansas Tied for Sixth at General Jim Hackler

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. - After the second round was suspended due to darkness at the General Jim Hackler Intercollegiate the 13th-ranked Razorbacks found themselves sharing six place with three other schools. Arkansas, Central Florida, Furman and Louisville all shot a 14-over-par 302 on the TPC of Myrtle Beach's par 72, 6,950-yard golf course. Pepperdine is leading the 19-team field with a score of 292 for four-over-par.
The Hogs had three holes left in the second round and were at even par as a team to that point. That kind of play has left Arkansas head coach Mike Ketcham optimistic about completing the second round on Tuesday.
"We were moving up fast in the afternoon," Ketcham said. "Things are going better for us and I think this morning we had a little of a hangover effect from last weekend's performance. The conditions here have been very difficult to play in with 15-20 mile-per-hour wind gusts, but Seth Murphy played well today. It's the kind of tournament where you want to get the ball as close to the green as possible and get par. I think we'll have a good opportunity to win this tournament going into the last round."
Leading Arkansas is senior Seth Murphy who posted a 72 for even par in the first round and is alone in ninth place. Senior Andrew Dahl and sophomore Paul Bradshaw both posted scores of four-over-par 76 and they are tied in 32nd.
Freshman Matt Bortis is tied at 58th with a 78 for six over par. When freshman Beau Glover came down with a case of food poisoning senior Chad Faucett was able to take his place since he was competing at the tournament as an individual. Faucett registered a 79 (+7) to put himself in a tie for 68th. The General Jim Hackler Intercollegiate is Faucett's first competition of the spring campaign and his third for the year.
A shotgun start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday will mark the completion of the second round and entire final round at the General Jim Hackler Intercollegiate. When the Hogs return from South Carolina they will head south to Austin, Texas for the Morris Williams Intercollegiate on March 14-16.
