Boit and Arkansas Win Missouri Southern Stampe

JOPLIN, Mo. - In his first race as a Razorback junior transfer Josephat Boit captured top honors with a time of 23:54.82 at the 8K Missouri Southern Stampede and helped lead Arkansas to a team victory with 20 points. The Eldoret, Kenya native finished ahead of 240 competitors from 22 other schools, while 10 UA runners comprised the top 20. Harding was the second place team with 72 points.
"We had a good meet and we had the top guys do very well," Arkansas head coach John McDonnell said. "We had a few guys like Josephat (Boit) and Marc (Rodrigues) that finished near the top, so did Matt Gunn and Luis Bordes. Everyone had a good run. We still have a long way to go before we're a good team, but the nucleus is there."
Junior transfer Marc Rodrigues was close behind as he crossed the line in third (24:14.72). Junior Matt Gunn had a solid season debut as he finished fifth with a career-best time of 24:36.24. Gunn bettered his former best time by 30 seconds. He had run a 25:06 at last year's Missouri Southern Stampede. After claiming first place two weeks ago at the season-opening Arkansas Invitational junior Luis Bordes was sixth (24:45.60).
Redshirt freshman Jonathan Norris posted a time of 24:59.42 for 11th and junior Said Ahmed was right behind in 12th with a career-best time of 25:03.68. Ahmed improved his previous best (25:40) from the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree by 37 seconds.
Redshirt freshman Chase Feltner earned 14th place (25:05.68) and senior Eric Gross was 17th (25:13.09). Junior transfer Jose Campos crossed the line in 19th with a performance of 25:21.06 and Tyler Hill, also a redshirt freshman, grabbed the 20th position with a time of 25:22.56.
Redshirt freshman Travis Feltner turned in a time of 26:24.29 for 51st and junior transfer Harun Iman was 53rd (26:28.43). Sophomore Adam Perkins rounded out the UA athletes in 55th (26:30.47).
The Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., is next on the schedule for Arkansas on Oct. 2. The Chile Pepper Invitational will follow in Fayetteville, Ark., on Oct. 16.
