Gentry Breaks School Record; Hogs Lose 5-2 at

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Craig Gentry's record-setting night wasn't enough as 23rd-ranked Tennessee snapped the 10th-ranked Razorbacks' nine-game winning streak, 8-2, on Saturday night in front of a season-high 2,726 fans at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Gentry broke the school-record for consecutive hits with 10 in a row dating back to the Hogs' win over SMS on Wednesday night. Brett Harrison held the original mark of nine straight set in 1983. Gentry collected hits in his final three at bats against the Bears and then went 4 for 4 against the Vols last night. Gentry broke the record by getting hits in his first three at bats on Saturday.
"He has been a catalyst for us in this series," Arkansas Head Coach Dave Van Horn said. "He was on base all night, but we weren't able to get the big hit to get him home."
Gentry came through with the only Arkansas runs on the night with a two-run home run to left field in the third inning. Gentry singled in his first at bat and then singled again in the fifth to break the record. Tennessee finally got the junior from Fort Smith Christian High School out on a sharply hit one-hopper to shortstop in the seventh.
The Arkansas pitching staff struggled to throw strikes and the Hogs' defense committed five errors on the night. UA used four pitchers on the night that combined to tie a season high with eight walks.
The five errors, which also tied a season high, also hurt the Hogs effort on the mound, as only four of Tennessee's runs were earned.
"We probably played our worst ball game of the year," Van Horn said. "I thought our guys hustled, and gave it a great effort - it just didn't happen. We booted balls. We threw balls away, and we left a lot of guys on base. They beat us with two or three big hits. But those runners were on base because of hits and walks."
The loss drops the Razorbacks to 30-7 on the season and 8-6 in SEC play. Tennessee improves to 24-10 overall and 8-5 in league play.
Tennessee starter James Adkins improved to 6-1 on the season with 7.1 innings of work. He allowed only two runs on nine hits and struck out seven.
Arkansas gave away two runs in the second inning with three walks and an error on relief pitcher Josh Smith.
A throwing error on catcher Blake Parker led to the Volunteers third run of the night in the fourth inning. Chase Headley led off the fifth inning with a solo home run off the scoreboard in right field. The Vols tacked on their fifth run in the inning on a fielder's choice by Josh Alley.
The two teams will play the rubber game on Sunday at 10:15 a.m. at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
