Hogs Complete Sweep of Northern Colorado

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The 16th-ranked Arkansas baseball took care of a little unfinished business from Tuesday night by polishing off a 9-3 win over Northern Colorado Wednesday afternoon and followed that with a 7-4 win in the nightcap.
A Baum Stadium crowd of 1,324 saw the Razorbacks improve to 24-6 on the season with a conference series against Vanderbilt on the horizon this weekend. Northern Colorado dropped to 9-24 on the season with the losses.
"I'm happy with the win, but we want to make sure we're ready to play a team like Vanderbilt," Arkansas Head Coach Dave Van Horn said. "I'm glad it was a good game, and I'm glad our pitchers were able to close it out. But we didn't do some things we needed to do early in the game."
Charley Boyce got the win in relief in game two with 2.2-scoreless innings of work out of the bullpen to improve to 5-4 on the season. The Hogs used six pitchers on the night after sophomore Josh Smith started and went three-scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three.
Clay Goodwin paced the Hogs offense with a season-high three hits, including a double, triple and a RBI. Jake Dugger cracked his team-high seventh home run in the first inning and John Henry Marquardt went 2 for 4 with his eighth double of the season.
Grady Gorman led the Bear's nine-hit attack with two hits and two RBI. John Ray and Phil Delich also collected two hits for UNC.
The Razorbacks finished off Tuesday night's rain-delayed game on Wednesday afternoon, picking up the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with a 3-2 lead. Arkansas quickly expanded that lead to 9-2 with a six-run fifth inning.
Danny Hamblin's three hits led the Hogs 14-hit attack in the first game. His two-run home run highlighted the Hogs' fifth inning. Craig Gentry also collected three hits in four at bats with an RBI.
Devin Collis picked up the win by pitching all five innings in game one. He replaced James Gilbert who started the game on Tuesday night. Collis allowed one run on six hits and struck out four. Gilbert allowed two runs on three hits in four innings of work.
Arkansas welcomes SEC foe Vanderbilt to Baum Stadium this weekend with games times at 7:05 p.m. Friday, 3:05 p.m. Saturday and 1:05 p.m. on Saturday.
