Mississippi State Hands Razorbacks Second Stra

DD> FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Mississippi State's starting pitcher Todd Doolittle shut down the Arkansas bats through eight innings and the 24th-ranked Bulldogs offense exploded for a 13-4 win in front of 3,018 cold and wet fans at Baum Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Doolittle (3-1) allowed just two runs (one earned) on five hits to improve to 3-1 on the season. He walked five and struck out five on 125 pitches.
Arkansas starter Shaun Seibert was not as fortunate, lasting just one-plus inning and giving up six runs - three earned - on five hits. He walked two and struck out one to pick up the first loss of his career (3-1).
The nine-run margin of victory for the Bulldogs marked the worst home loss for the Razorbacks since South Carolina won 16-5 on March 9, 2001.
"We didn't play very good defense early, and we walked a couple of people," Arkansas Head Coach Dave Van Horn said. "They took advantage of everything we gave them. It was just a bunch of little things that all added up, and the next thing you know we are down. They have some good players - some good hitters - and the made us pay for our mistakes."
The loss dropped the fifth-ranked Hogs' record to 20-4 on the year and 2-3 in the SEC. The Bulldogs improved to 17-3 and 4-1 in conference play.
Mississippi State led 6-0 after a five-run second frame that saw nine Bulldogs come to the plate. Arkansas made two errors in the second inning, leading to three unearned runs for the Bulldogs. The Hogs finished the game with four miscues, resulting in six unearned runs for MSU.
The Razorbacks pushed their first run across the plate in the bottom of the third inning on an infield RBI single of the bat of Scott Bridges. The Hogs added a run in the seventh on Clay Goodwin's third home run of the season and pushed two more home in the ninth inning on RBI singles by John Marquardt and Clint Arnold.
MSU plated four more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Brad Jones second home run of the season. Jones finished the day 2 for 4 with two RBI.
Brad Corley added his second home run of the season in the seventh inning to pad the Bulldogs' lead. He drove in three runs on two hits for the day. Jeffrey Rea led MSU with three hits and three RBI.
Casey Rowlett extended his hitting streak to 21 games with a single in the sixth. He was one of seven Razorbacks to collected a hit on the day.
Arkansas will look to salvage the final game of the series on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. at Baum Stadium.
