Razorbacks Continue to Dominate on the Court

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Arkansas was able to win the doubles point and win five of the six singles matches Tuesday afternoon to dominate to a 6-1 victory over Texas-Arlington.
"I was really pleased with our intensity," head coach Robert Cox said. "We wanted to make it a real difficult place to play here at our indoor facility. Something that is different from last year is that we believe in ourselves a little more and it showed in the way that we came out and played some really good doubles right from the beginning."
The doubles began with the No. 1 doubles team of Henrik Tofft and John Deaton losing a close match to UTA 8-5. The Hogs were able to win the No. 2 doubles. The doubles match was deadlocked at one a piece with the weight of the doubles point on the duo of Chris Campbell and Brad Berry. With the match tied at four, the Razorback duo was able to win two break points and hold serve to win the match 8-4.
"Chris and Brad have played doubles the last two years," Cox said. "They know each other so well that they almost move as one. Then you throw in a little excitement and adrenaline; you never know what to expect from those two guys. Right now they are a pretty good No. 3 doubles team."
Oskar Johansson, who is ranked eighth in the nation, was able to fend off the big serve of Andy Leber for the 6-4, 6-3 win.
"It all starts with Oskar," Cox said. "He is No. 8 in the country and everybody is going to take their best shot at him. Today he played a very talented player and Oskar came out on top."
In No. 2 singles, Henrik Tofft remains undefeated with his win of 6-2, 6-2.
The match of the afternoon was between sophomore Tiago Azevedo and Per-Erik Karlsson of UTA. The match lasted two-and-a-half hours with two, tie break points and a third set tiebreak to end the match. Karlsson was able to squeak by winning the match 7-6, 6-7, 7-10.
"Tiago and the way that he plays, he is going to be in a lot of long matches," Cox said. " He just can't blow anybody out. I am very pleased with his performance. I think that this is his first time playing at No. 3 against a good quality opponent and I saw big things from him."
Magnus Kullenberg, Eduardo Pacheco and Campbell picked up straight set wins.
The Hogs will be on the road this weekend to Bloomington, Ind. for the Indiana Invitational. Johansson will participate in the Rolex Indoor Championships in Dallas, Texas. The event hosts the top 16 men's and women's players in the nation in both singles and doubles. Johansson earned the honor with his runner up finish at the Rolex Regionals last October.
