Razorbacks Finish Sixth at Border Olympics


LAREDO, Texas - No. 19 Arkansas was able to move up one spot on the leader board at the 53rd Border Olympics as it ended the tourney in sixth place with an eight-over-par 872. In Friday's first and second rounds the Hogs carded scores of 293 and 284, respectively. In today's final round they put together a 295 on Laredo Country Club's 72-par, 7,125-yard golf course.
No. 39 SMU stayed on top to come away with the first place hardware and a 12-under-par 852, while Colorado State's Martin Laird captured the individual title with a nine-under-par 207.
Senior Andrew Dahl and freshman Matt Bortis tied for 16th place with scores of one-over-par 217 and were the Razorbacks' top finishers. It marked the fourth time Dahl was UA's best finisher as he registered an even 72 in the third round. In the first and second rounds he posted a 73 and 72, respectively. Dahl now has six top-20 finishes for the year.
Bortis' performance gave him his third appearance at the top of the Hog roster and fourth top-20 finish for the year. His 16th-place showing was made possible by the career-best round of 66 he fired in the second round. In the final round he shot a 75 to go with his 76 from the first round.
Freshman Beau Glover had his best round this afternoon when he put up an even 72. With his first and second round scores of 74 and 73 he came away with a 219 (+3) and tied for 23rd place. After turning in two rounds of 73 on Friday, senior Chad Faucett recorded a 76 in the final round. His scores gave him a six-over-par 222 for the weekend.
Rounding out the lineup was senior Seth Murphy who tied for 63rd with a 12-over-par 228. Murphy saw his best performance in the first round with a 73, but shot a 77 and 78 in the second and third rounds, respectively.
The Southeastern Conference Championships are next for Arkansas as it will look to capture its first league crown since 1995. The SEC tournament will be held on April 15-18, in Sea Island, Ga.
