Razorbacks Rally to Finish Third at Taylor Mad

KONA, Hawaii - After going into the third round in a tie for fifth place the 18th-ranked Razorbacks rallied in the final round of the Taylor Made Waikoloa Intercollegiate to turn in a score of 274. Friday's performance along with first and second round scores of 293 and 278 gave them a 19-under-par 845 for the tournament and third place. Arkansas was only four shots off from the champion, No. 5 Georgia Tech (841), who consistently lead through three days of play, and one shot away from earning runner-up honors. Fourth-ranked UCLA grabbed second place with a score of 844 and 20-under-par.
This season marked the 13th-consecutive year Arkansas has competed in the prestigious tournament and it was the fifth time the Hogs had garnered a top-five finish. Their best showing came in 1993 when they claimed the team title.
Arkansas' outstanding finish was made possible after each UA golfer finished in the top 30 over 100 other top competitors. Additionally, they were all able to card scores under par on the Waikoloa Kings' 72 par, 7,074-yard golf course.
Freshman Matt Bortis led the UA team throughout the entire tournament and tied for fifth place with a seven-under-par 209. Bortis shot a 69 in the third round to go with his first and second round scores of 72 and 68.
Senior All-American Andrew Dahl turned in a season-best round of 67 to give himself a total score of 212 and four under par. In the first and second rounds Dahl shot 74 and 71, respectively and tied for 14th place.
Sophomore Paul Bradshaw was one shot behind with a three-under-par 213. Bradshaw had final and second rounds of 70 to go with his first round score of 73. His performance tied him for 18th.
Rounding out the Razorback team was senior Seth Murphy and freshman Beau Glover who both tied for 29th place with a one-under-par 215. They also both posted final rounds of 69. Murphy turned in a first round score of 74 and 72 in the second, while Glover improved dramatically from his opening round 77 to shoot a 69 in the second round.
After Arkansas returns from Hawaii they will enjoy a week off before traveling to Los Angeles, Calif., for the USC Intercollegiate on Feb. 29 - March 2, where the Razorbacks will hope to continue their excellent play.
