Razorbacks Take Series from Alabama With 3-2 W

Tuscaloosa, Ala. - The Arkansas baseball team jumped on the back of junior right-hander Charley Boyce this weekend and the 18th-ranked Razorbacks came into Alabama's Sewell-Thomas Stadium and won a series for the first time since 1995.
The Hogs won 3-2 on Sunday as Boyce tossed his first complete game of the season for his 10th win. He also picked up the win on Friday night and has 26 for his career, tying him for second place in school history with Dennis Fletcher.
Boyce allowed just two runs - one earned - on 102 pitches and struck out five on Sunday. He threw 11.2 innings over the weekend on 155 pitches, allowing just two earned runs. His ERA dropped from 3.84 to 3.55 over the weekend, and he leads the team with 91.1 innings pitched.
"Charley did a great job of getting ahead of hitters," Arkansas Head Coach Dave Van Horn said. "He just kind of got to do his thing. He got out of a couple of jams early, but we got out of it and just chipping away at the plate."
Boyce walked just one on the day and didn't go to a three-ball count until the final hitter of the sixth inning.
The 13th-ranked Crimson Tide used three pitchers with Brent Carter taking the loss to fall to 6-3. Arkansas chased Tide starter T.J. Large at 2.1 innings and David Robertson pitched the final 2.2 innings.
Brian Walker led the Hogs' offense attack with his second-career three-hit game. Craig Gentry chipped in with two hits and Jake Dugger added a two-RBI double.
Van Horn's decision to pinch run for Blake Parker in the seventh inning after a single proved brilliant as pinch runner Stephen Robison raced home from third base two batters later for what proved to be the winning run.
The Razorbacks would strand 10 runners on the day and on one at third bases in each of the final three innings.
Dugger ripped a one-out double into the left-center field gap to score two runs in the third inning. The two RBI gave Dugger the team lead with 44 and tied his single-season career high set in his freshman campaign last season.
The two runs were the first scored by the Razorbacks before the seventh inning this weekend. The Hogs scored three in the seventh inning on Friday night and then plated their first run in the seventh inning again on Saturday.
Alabama got off to another quick start, scoring first for the third straight game when Emeel Salem raced home on a throwing error by Hogs' second baseman Tschepikow.
The Crimson Tide tied the game at two in the fourth inning with a solo home run from cleanup hitter Evan Bush to straightaway center field. It was his first hit of the series.
Arkansas finishes the regular season with a three-game series against Ole Miss at Baum Stadium next weekend. The opener is slated for a 7:05 p.m. first pitcher on Friday, May 20. Saturday's game will start at 3:05 p.m. and Sunday's finale is set for 1:05 p.m.
