DENTON, Texas -- The defending national champion Arkansas Razorbacks have made their bid for the 1999 NCAA Championship by winning the NCAA South Central Regional Saturday morning in Denton, Texas.
"We ran pretty good," head coach John McDonnell said. "We ran well but we had some guys hold back. It's really good to know that you still have three or four guys at home that can still run just as well."
The Hogs continued their winning ways placing four runners in the top 10. This season the Hogs have claimed three runners in the top-five places in each of the six meets.
Senior Michael Power successfully defended his 1998 individual regional title with a 30:07 winning performance. This is Power's third win of the season. He has claimed titles at the Hurricane Festival, Southeastern Conference Championships and now the regional title.
Senior All-American Andrew Begley placed second with a time of 30:26. Begley has three second place finishes on the season.
Finishing fifth was senior Adam Dailey with a time of 30:48. In sixth place was junior Sharif Karie finishing in a time of 30:52. Adam Dunleavy and Keith O'Doherty finished 15th and 16th respectively.
The Hogs are now set for the 1999 NCAA Cross Country Championships held in Bloomington, Ind. Arkansas will be looking for its 10th national cross country title.
