South Carolina Snaps Hogs 12-Game Winning Stre

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Second-ranked South Carolina used a nine-run fourth inning to snap Arkansas' 12-game winning streak, 12-3, Saturday afternoon in front of 4,290 fans at Sarge Frye Field.
The eighth-ranked Razorbacks fall to 17-2 on the season and 1-1 in SEC play. It is the Hogs first loss in exactly one month, dropping a 10-8 decision at Louisiana Tech on Feb. 19.
"It was a bad day all the way around for us," Arkansas Head Coach Dave Van Horn said. "Charley (Boyce) just couldn't finish off hitters. He would get two strikes on them and not finish them off. He just wasn't sharp."
Charley Boyce cruised through the first three innings before running into trouble in the fourth. He was lifted after sandwiching a walk between two singles and allowing his first of three runs. Boyce would get tagged with the loss to fall to 3-2 on the season.
James Gilbert came on in relief and failed to get an out after a throwing error by third baseman John Marquardt on a bunt and hitting a batter. Gilbert then gave up a two-RBI double to pinch hitter Tommy King and was replaced by Devon Collis.
Collis would allow three more runs on back-to-back home runs by Steven Tolleson and Chris Brown. In all, the Gamecocks would score nine runs in the inning on six hits.
"We are heading into tomorrow's (Sunday's) game with a chance to win the series and that is all you can ask for," Van Horn said. "We just have to come out tomorrow and play our game."
Arkansas scratched out its first run on a two-out base hit by Brian Walker in the top of the second inning. Hamblin would come around to score after reaching on an infield single with one out in the inning.
USC's Zac McCamie (5-1) earned the win by pitching seven innings and giving up just one run on five hits. He struck out seven and walked two.
Casey Rowlett extended his hitting streak to 18 games in the eighth inning with a RBI double to right field. Jake Dugger followed with a RBI single to pull the Hogs to within 10-3.
Collis would throw four innings, allowing four runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out two.
Right fielder Craig Gentry would come on to pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning and give up a two-run home run to Steve Pearce as the Gamecocks extended the lead to 12-3. It was the first career appearance as a pitcher for the Razorbacks.
The Razorbacks and Gamecocks will play the rubber game of the series at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Arkansas will then head to Shreveport, La., for a two-game series with Centenary on Tuesday and Wednesday.
