@RazorbackWTRack Incoming Freshman Improves American Junior Record

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas women’s track and field signee Desiree Freier won silver for Team USA in the pole vault Thursday at the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene, Ore. The prep standout from Fort Worth, Texas, finished the meet with a clearance of 4.45m/14-7.25, a mark that improves upon the American junior record she established earlier this season.
Freier first broke the junior record in April with a clearance of 4.42m/14-6 to surpass the five-year-old standard of 4.38m/14-4.5 set by Natalie Willer in 2009. In addition to the American junior record, Freier has already broken the Texas state record and national high school indoor and outdoor marks. The silver-medal performance by Freier also represented the first-ever women’s pole vault medal won by the USA at the World Junior Championships, now in its 28th edition.
