FAYETTEVILLE – Each Monday during the summer, www.ArkansasRazorbacks.com will recap the previous week of summer action for @RazorbackMGolf as members of the team play in some of the best tournaments around the country, while keeping up with all the #ProHOGS on tour. This week’s #RazorRewind looks at the performances of juniors-to-be Nicolas Echavarria and Kolton Crawford.
Taking on a field of 156, which included 50 of the world’s top 100 players, Echavarria was one of the low 44 scores to advance through the first two rounds of stroke play thanks to a one-under 70 and bogey-free 67 that put him in a tie for seventh.
With 36 holes of stroke play on Thursday set to cut the field down to 16 for match play, Echavarria put together back-to-back even-par 71s to tie for 16th place with two others, setting up a 3-for-1 playoff. Unfortunately, Echavarria failed to advance to match play, but finished as one of 13 players to shoot even-par or lower all four rounds of stroke play.
The low amateur each of the last two years at the Texas State Open, Crawford nearly made it three years in a row, but finished second among the amateurs and 13th overall with a 72-hole score of nine-under par. Crawford opened the tournament with a six-under 66 and followed with an eight-under 64 in round two, which tied for the second-lowest score over the weekend.
