FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas men’s tennis team will face challenging competition early on this season as it travels to five different events, according to the fall portion of the 2014 schedule, released by head coach Andy Jackson on Thursday.
Jackson enters his second season as head coach alongside assistant coach Nestor Briceno who is also going into year two at Arkansas. Last season, Jackson led the Razorbacks to three league wins, a top 15 victory and multiple SEC weekly honors, the first such season with any of these feats in over five years.
Arkansas men’s tennis will start its fall 2014 season at the Southern Intercollegiate tournament Sept. 12-15 in Athens, Georgia. The oldest fall college tennis tournament in the South, the Southern Intercollegiate has been played each year since 1968.
The last two weekends of September, the Razorbacks will head to the SEC Fall Coaches Championship in Gainesville, Florida (Sept. 19-22), and the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Maryland (Sept. 26-28). In 2013, Arkansas’ Johan Den Toom came away as winner of his flight at the Navy Invite.
Oct. 9-13 Arkansas plays at the ITA Central Regional Championship in Norman, Oklahoma. The winner of this event will qualify for the ITA National Indoors in November. Closing out the fall season, the Razorbacks travel to Fort Meyers, Florida, to compete in the F.G.C.U. Invitational Oct. 31- Nov. 2.
All members of the Arkansas men’s tennis team will play in the Southern Intercollegiate tournament, the SEC Fall Coaches Championship and the ITA Central Regionals, while select individuals will compete at the Navy and F.G.C.U. Invites.
The Razorbacks claimed a 13-16 overall record and went 3-10 in the SEC during the 2013-14 season.
