Dominique Scott Earns SEC Runner of the Week Honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – On Tuesday afternoon, the Southeastern Conference announced that redshirt junior Dominique Scott has been named the SEC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week for her efforts at last Saturday’s adidas/UCI Invitational.

Scott, a 2013 NCAA All-American, set a new 5K course record time at the adidas/UCI Invitational in Irvine, Calif., to collect her first individual title of 2014 and the third of her career. Scott, who was making her season debut, posted time of 17:12.50 which is the second-fastest 5,000-meter time registered by a SEC runner this season.

“Dominique and teammates Grace Heymsfield and Diane Robison all broke the meet record and any of them could have been named the athlete of the week,” said head coach Lance Harter. “We are very proud that Dom in a very controlled effort could still beat the course record.”

Tuesday’s honor is the second time that Scott has been named the SEC Runner of the Week. The first came last season on Sept. 24, after she won the Aztec Invitational with a then 5K-best time of 17:33.00.

The No.7 Razorbacks scored a perfect 15 at the adidas/UCI Invitational to win its second consecutive meet of the year. Arkansas runners placed 1-9 in the event, while Grace Heymsfield (17:18.20) and Diane Robison (17:23.90) each collected the third and fourth-fastest 5K times in the SEC this season.

The team will take this weekend off, but will return to action on Sept. 20, as they travel to Joplin, Mo., to participate in the 2014 Missouri Southern Stampede. Race time is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m.
