OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – One of 10 ranked teams in the 15-team field, the No.21 Arkansas men’s golf team sits in sole possession of ninth place after the first day of the Olympia Fields CC/Fighting Illini Invitational.
Redshirt junior Kolton Crawford was Arkansas’ low-man for the fourth straight round to open the fall campaign, carding a two-over 72 to highlight the team’s four-man score of 301. A crowded leaderboard features 10 teams within 10 strokes of No. 23 Virginia Tech who shot a 291.
Crawford’s 72 puts him a tie for sixth place in the individual standings with only two players in the field of 75 reaching red numbers. Freshman Emil Soegaard sits in a tie for 14th place after a counting score of 73 to start his second career tournament. Junior Gonzalo Rubio turned in a 76 while redshirt sophomore Zach Coats had the final counting score with an 80.
Arkansas will return to Olympia Fields Country Club on Saturday from 9:00-9:36 a.m., playing the second round on the par 70, 7142-yard course alongside No. 1 Alabama and No. 11 Oklahoma.
