Flowers Selected Senior Class Award Candidate

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Senior defensive end Trey Flowers’ commitment to the classroom and Arkansas football was highlighted in his selection as a candidate for the Senior CLASS award, as announced Thursday.

The native of Huntsville, Alabama, was selected as one of 30 NCAA FBS student-athlete candidates for the award that recognizes community, classroom, character and competition.

Flowers excels in the classroom and will graduate early this December with above a 3.0 GPA and a degree in economics from the Sam W. Walton College of Business. His efforts in the classroom have earned him academic recognition each year at Arkansas, as he was named to the Razorback Honor Roll in the fall of 2011 and the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll in 2012 and 2013.

Leadership remains a forefront for Flowers, who prefers to lead by example. He is active in the Northwest Arkansas community where he speaks to underprivileged youth on the importance of leadership and education. His initiative and demeanor was recognized by the coaching staff over the summer as Coach Bielema selected Flowers as one of Arkansas' three representatives at SEC Media Day. Flowers is also well respected by his teammates and was elected team captain by his peers.

A preseason All-SEC first team honoree, Flowers is an essential cog in the Razorbacks defense, having recorded 135 tackles, 34.0 for loss, 12 sacks, 18 quarterback hurries, three forced fumbles, nine pass breakups and one interception over his career. The standout defensive end has played 39 games over the past four seasons, missing just one contest in his career. Flowers’ career 34.0 tackles for loss makes him the active career leader in the SEC and 9th on Arkansas’ all-time career charts.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award honors the attributes of senior student-athletes in four areas: community, classroom, character and competition. The award program is designed exclusively for college seniors who are utilizing their complete athletic eligibility, remaining committed to their university and pursuing the many rewards a senior season can bring.

The Razorbacks will take on the Northern Illinois Huskies this Saturday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m., in Donald W. Reynolds Stadium. The game will be broadcasted on ESPNU. A limited supply of tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 1-800-982-HOGS (4647) or going online to ARKANSASRAZORBACKS.COM.
