JOPLIN, Mo. - The No. 8 Arkansas women’s cross country team will be going for its third straight team title to open the season on Saturday morning, as they travel to nearby Joplin, Mo. to participate in the 2014 Missouri Southern Stampede. Race time from the Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex is slated for 8:30 a.m.
The Razorbacks have started the 2014 campaign on a high note, as they have picked up a pair of first-place team finishes (Hurricane Cross Country Festival, adidas/UCI Invitational), as well as a pair of individual winners (Regan Ward, Dominque Scott), to open the year. Arkansas will be looking to pick up its third straight event title as they will be going up a slew of local Division I and Division II teams on the 5K course.
Redshirt junior Dominique Scott will be leading the way for Arkansas in this weekend’s race, as she looks to improve on her 5K time of 17:12.50 at the adidas/UCI Invitational in Irvine Calif. (Sept. 6). Scott’s time not only gave her the third individual title of her career, but also set a 5K course record and helped her earn her second-ever Southeastern Conference Runner of the Week honor. The 17:12.50 performance is the third-fastest 5K time ran by a SEC runner this year, putting the 2013 NCAA All-American behind sophomore Rhianwedd Price of Mississippi State (16:57.77) and junior Chelsea Blaase of Tennessee (16:44.40).
Scott’s performance spearheaded a 1-9 finish for the Razorbacks at the adidas/UCI Invitational, as they posted a perfect 15 in the scoring rotation to run away with their second event title of the year.
