1964 Championship Team to Be Honored at Alabama Game

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – In honor of the 50th anniversary of Arkansas’ 1964 National Championship, seniors of the undefeated team will return to Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium to serve as the A Club Honorary Captains and the entire 1964 team be honored in a pre-game ceremony for Saturday’s game between the Razorbacks and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Members of the 1964 team will be recognized in the approximately 30 minutes prior to kickoff and participate in the ‘A’ Walk of Honor.Due to the number of fans anticipated for the sold out game, fans should plan to arrive at least one hour early to make certain they are in their seats for the pre-game presentation.

In addition to the pre-game ceremony, special features are planned throughout the game to commemorate the championship. The Razorback Marching Band will also pay tribute to the team with a special halftime performance.

This group of legendary Razorbacks earned its way into the history books when it ran the table in 1964 and knocked off Nebraska 10-7 in the Cotton Bowl to become the only undefeated team in the country. The Razorbacks were named national champions by the Football Writers Association of America, one of the few organizations that waited until after the bowl game to name its national champion.

The Razorbacks will host Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN.
