CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team finished up its fourth of six fall tournaments on Sunday at the Virginia Fall Invitational in Charlottesville, Va. Sophomore Shannon Hudson led the way for the Razorbacks as she claimed both a singles and a doubles victory.
Hudson, a Virginia Beach, Va., native competing in her home state defeated Kristina Hovsepyan of Maryland in singles, 6-4, 6-2, to earn her third match win of the tournament. In doubles, she teamed with freshman Mia Jurasic to claim a win in a tiebreaker over Old Dominion’s Vukovic and Atiso, 8-7.
Arkansas was defeated in its other three singles matches on the day, however, the matches were highly competitive and could have gone either way. Makenzie Craft fell in a second-set tiebreaker while Jurasic and Nastassia Rubel both fell in close three-set matches.
“We weren’t far off of a fantastic finish here on day three but ultimately today’s results will be full of teachable moments for this young group,” head coach Michael Hegarty said.
In total, the Hogs claimed seven victories during the tournament – six singles and one doubles.
The Razorbacks resume their fall schedule this week as they are set to compete at the ITA Central Regional Championships in Stillwater, Okla., Oct. 16-20.
