Cardinal Captures Fall World Series With 10-2 Win

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Cardinal team used a four-run first inning Sunday afternoon to cruise to a 10-2 victory and win the 2014 Fall World Series at Baum Stadium.

The First inning proved to be the difference as Krisjon Wilkerson belted a three-run home run over the bullpen in left field to cap a four-run first frame for the Cardinal team and give them a lead they would never relinquish.

The White team chipped away at the deficit with single runs in each of the first two innings thanks to a RBI single by Tyler Spoon and a sacrifice fly from Rick Nomura, but that would be all the offense it could muster, leaving seven runners on base in the game.

The Cardinal team continued to click on all cylinders, pounding out 14 hits, including a solo home run from Josh Alberius to lead off the sixth inning.

Bobby Wernes tallied a game-high three hits and drove in a pair, while Andrew Benintendi, Wilkerson and Alberius all added a pair of hits.

Cardinal starting pitcher Parker Sanburn settled in and picked up the victory, tossing 4.0 innings and giving up two runs on three hits, while walking two and striking out one. Kyle Pate, Lance Phillips and Jonah combined to hold the White team hitless over the final 3.0 innings.

The Razorbacks will now turn their attention to the 2015 campaign and the season opener on Friday, Feb. 13 against North Dakota at Baum Stadium.
