Irwin-Hill Named Ray Guy Award Candidate

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas senior punter Sam Irwin-Hill was selected as a 2014 Ray Guy Award candidate, as announced by the Augusta Sports Council. Irwin-Hill joins a list of 80 candidates for the accolade that recognizes the nation’s top collegiate punter.

A native of Bendigo, Australia, Irwin-Hill had his best collegiate game against Texas A&M when he rushed 51 yards for his first career touchdown on a fake punt at the end of the first half. The senior also punted seven times for 304 yards (43.4 avg.). None of his seven punts were returned for positive yardage, giving him a net average of 43.6.

On the season, Irwin-Hill is averaging 40.8 yards per punt, including a season-long 54-yard boot. The senior opened the 2014 season against Auburn with a then-career high seven punts for 301 yards, pinning the Tigers inside the 20 four times.

The honor marks Irwin-Hill’s second consecutive nomination for the Ray Guy Award after transferring from City College of San Francisco before the 2013 season.
