FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After a weekend off, the Arkansas women’s tennis team picks back up with its fall schedule as it heads to Charlotteville, Va., Oct. 10-12 for the Virginia Fall Invitational. Arkansas will be joined by six other teams in the field including host Virginia, Marshall, Maryland, Northwestern, Old Dominion and South Carolina.
Two singles draws of 16 players as well as two eight-team doubles draws will be played during the three-day tournament. Friday’s play will begin at 9 a.m. EDT from the Snyder Tennis Center with one round of doubles followed by two rounds of singles.
“We are excited to face some strong competition this weekend,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “Both Virginia and Northwestern are Final Four type teams and it’s great to test ourselves against these squads.”
Four Razorbacks are scheduled to compete this weekend in sophomores Shannon Hudson and Nastassia Rubel, junior Makenzie Craft and freshman Mia Jurasic.
Rubel, a native of Minsk, Belarus, will be making her fall debut with the Razorbacks and it will also be her first collegiate match.
Hudson, fresh off an appearance in the singles qualifying draw of the 2014 Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships on Sept. 30, will be competing in her third event of the fall. Ranked No. 121 in the preseason ITA singles poll, she is 3-3 in singles this fall and finished runner-up in her flight at the Sooner Invitational on Sept. 19-21. Coming to Fayetteville by way of Virginia Beach, Va., Hudson will have the opportunity to compete in her home state this weekend.
Craft will be appearing in her second tournament of the fall, owning a 3-1 singles record after finishing runner-up in her flight at the Sooner Invite.
Jurasic will be playing in her second tournament of the fall after tallying a 1-3 singles mark at the Sooner Invite.
