Arkansas holds 15 top-20 times in the SEC, including four within the top 10 with a best of No. 5 by senior Anna Mayfield in the 500 free (4:41.57). Individually, Mayfield leads the way for the Razorbacks with four of the 15 top-20 times.
Arkansas looks to maintain the momentum of its quad-meet sweep of Vanderbilt, Houston and Clemson last weekend. The Razorbacks placed first in 16 of 20 events throughout the weekend and were led by Mayfield and three-time SEC Freshman of the Week Madison Strathman. Mayfield won two individual events and was on four victorious relays. She took the 200 free and 200 back in 1:48.48 and 1:58.66, respectively. Her 200 yard free relay team earned a first-place finish by three and a half seconds with a time of 1:33.68 – the second best this season. After earning SEC Freshman of the Week on Jan. 19 for swimming a 2:17.07 in the 200 breast at then-No. 9 Auburn, Strathman turned in an even better performance in the event this past weekend, earning a first-place finish by .83 seconds with a time of 2:16.85. In addition, she won the 100 breast in 1:04.26 – her second best time in the event this season – and was also a member of two winning relays (400 yard medley, 200 yard medley).
Illinois takes an 8-3 record into Saturday’s competition, which will mark the first ever meeting between the two programs. The Illini recently suffered back-to-back losses at Iowa and Nebraska.
Following the weekend, the Razorbacks will head to Columbia, Missouri for the SEC Championships on Feb. 16-20.
