Work In Classroom Earns 12 NFCA Honors

The University of Arkansas softball team excelled in the classroom with 12 individuals earning NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors as announced Wednesday afternoon.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – While working its way to an NCAA Tournament Super Regional last season, the University of Arkansas softball team also excelled in the classroom with 12 individuals earning NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors as announced Wednesday afternoon.

The Razorback's honors mark the third-consecutive year for Arkansas to have 12 or more athletes on the list, after having a nation and conference best 18 last season. To be considered, a student-athlete had to register a 3.5 or higher GPA for the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters.

Arkansas continues its fall schedule this weekend with two games slated in Oklahoma. Arkansas will face off against the Golden Hurricane in Tulsa Friday beginning at 6:30 p.m., with a doubleheader on tap in Stillwater against Oklahoma State Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. The Razorbacks will return to Bogle Park Wednesday Oct. 17 for a doubleheader against Butler CC and on Sunday Oct. 28 to face the Oklahoma Sooners in its final fall matchup of the season starting at noon.

The 2018-19 season marks the fourth under head coach Courtney Deifel who guided Arkansas to the No. 13 national seed in last year’s NCAA Tournament. The Razorbacks’ roster will feature five-player senior class of Sydney Benz, Haydi Bugarin, Ashley Diaz, Carley Haizlip and Katie Warrick. Arkansas welcomes transfers Braxton Burnside and Lauren Graves, and the No. 22-ranked freshman class (per FloSoftball).

The Razorbacks return a total of 15 letterwinners from last year's team that posted a 42-17 overall record and saw them advance to the SEC Tournament Semifinals while hosting the first-ever NCAA Regional at Bogle Park.
