FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas will play its final regular-season road game on Wednesday (March 6) when the Razorbacks travel to Nashville, Tenn., to face the Vanderbilt Commodores. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm at Memorial Gymnasium and the game will be telecast on the SEC Network.

This will be the 38th all-time meeting between Arkansas and Vanderbilt — and the second this season. The Razorbacks own a 25-12 advantage in the series, including a 24-11 cushion since Arkansas joined the SEC in 1992. Vanderbilt leads, 8-6, in games played at Memorial Gym.

Arkansas claimed a 69-66 victory over the Commodores last month and have won seven of the last eight in the series. In that win, Keyshawn Embery-Simpson hit a 3-pointer with 14 seconds left for a one-point Razorback lead. Mason Jones would add two free throws with seven seconds left to provide the final score.

Thanks to a scheduling oddity and over the last seven regular-season match-ups, Arkansas has only made two trips to Memorial Gym (2014 and 2017) while Vanderbilt has come to Fayetteville five times.

NOTES

  • Arkansas freshman Isaiah Joe made two 3-pointers versus Ole Miss, giving him an even 100 for the season. He is currently tied for second on the school’s single-season list and only needs two more to tie Scotty Thurman for the school record. Thurman made 102 in 1995.
  • If Joe makes nine more 3’s, he will tie for sixth for most 3-pointers made in a season by a freshman in NCAA history.
  • The SEC record for 3-pointers made in a season by a freshman is 113 by Kentucky’s Jamal Murray in 2016 (which also ranks 10th among all players on the SEC single-season list).
  • Joe is one of seven players in the NCAA to make at least 100 3-pointers and shoot at least 42 percent from long range.
  • Daniel Gafford ranks fifth in the NCAA and first in the SEC in field goal percentage (.659). He is one of four players in the NCAA to shoot over 60 percent while averaging over 16 points and 8 rebounds. Gafford is the only player in the SEC to rank among the league’s top 10 (or top 5 for that matter) in scoring (4th, 16.5), rebounding (1st, 8.7), blocked shots (4th, 2.0), offensive rebounds (1st, 2.9) and defensive rebounds (3rd, 5.8).
  • Arkansas has played in 13 games that were decided by 10 points or less, including 11 that were five points or less. The Razorbacks have won five of those games. Even with a 19-point loss at then #3 Tennessee, a 17-point loss at then #18 Ole Miss and a 23-point loss at Auburn, Arkansas’ margin of defeat this season is 8.2 points. Take out those three games and the margin of defeat drops to 5.1 points.
  • Arkansas ranks 13th in the NCAA by forcing 16.59 turnovers per game and ranks second in the SEC by forcing 481 turnovers this season.
  • On the flip side, Arkansas has committed 15 or fewer turnovers (126 total) in eight of its last 10 games. The Razorbacks rank third in the SEC in turnover margin at +3.0 and second in the SEC in assist-to-turnover ratio (+1.19).
  • Arkansas will close the regular season by hosting Alabama for the regular-season finale on Saturday (Mar. 9).
