Hear from the Hogs: Razorback Volleyball Continues SEC Play

Head volleyball coach Jason Watson
“Not only has the home stand been good for us to be in Barnhill, it’s afforded us much needed consecutive days of practice. Each day, we learn and grow. I continue to be impressed by the resilience of this group and their effort to getting better. They are directing their focus towards making the significant, yet small upgrades we need. Playing volleyball better and for longer periods of time.”

“Clearly, the competitive nature of the SEC makes every weekend a challenge. This weekend, Florida and South Carolina some to Fayetteville playing solid volleyball. Both are well coached and are able to sustain high level of play. Our focus this week is to control our side of the net. Let’s not hurt ourselves. Sustained serving pressure will be key.”

Junior middle blocker, Liz Pamphile
"Playing inside a packed Barnhill feels great! To know that our fans are there to support us with every team we play and stay and continue to cheer us on the whole game through is amazing and helps us way more than they can ever imagine! It definitely 'hypes' us up because we know we play, fight and represent Arkansas.  So when it feels like all of Arkansas is there to support us, it makes us want to fight even harder for them."

"Right now, we are focusing on fixing the little things.  Those are the things that are losing points for us that we need, it'll be important for everyone to know their job and do them well."

"It's easy for me to be confident when there are two tough opponents coming to town because I am not satisfied with my play in the past where we stand as a team.  We have something to prove and I’m excited to go prove that we can be so much better than what we have been showing, regardless of who is on the other side of the net."

Junior defensive specialist, Savannah Downing
"A big, high energy crowd can really change a match. Coming from a place where we barely had anyone in the stands at Iowa Western, being able to play in a place like Barnhill in front of the entire state of Arkansas is so amazing."

"We prepare like we do for every other match. We work on what we do on our side of the court. Staying in our eyes means to work relentlessly on the things we can do and having resilience when it doesn’t go in our favor. We'll have a couple film sessions per opponent and study up, watching for tendencies and patterns, taking what we learned in film, we'll work hard to prepare a game plan for each match and to stick to it."

Freshman outside hitter, Maggie Cartwright
"I think I have grown a lot from the start of the season; transitioning from high school to college is very different especially hitting wise so I know I have been improving hitting high over the block and high hands."

"The goals that I have set for myself are just being the best player I can possibly be and trusting what I do in practice will carry over to games."
