Razorback Brew 12/9: Battle of Reds

Good morning! A weekend of hoops is in store for the Razorbacks, and more praise comes in for the Hog football team as winter quickly approaches.

Good morning! A weekend of hoops is in store for the Razorbacks, and more praise comes in for the Hog football team as winter quickly approaches. Stay warm with us before you tackle your Friday.

Now, what all is steeping in today's Brew?

  • Heartwarming homecoming
  • Arkansas shuts down Lamar
  • Trio of Hogs make Freshman All-SEC Team
  • And much, much more!

Hugs all around. After three great years with Arkansas women's basketball, Chelsea Dungee left a wonderful legacy as a player. So when she returned to Bud Walton Arena as an opposing coach, it was nothing but love before and after the whistle.

Get inside access with Dungee as she prepares to face the Razorbacks as an assistant for Troy. Hear from Head Coach Mike Neighbors as he reflects on Dungee's career as a Razorback, as well as some of her biggest fans at the game.

> MAGIC NUMBER. 17 may not always win you a hand in Blackjack, but it did wonders for the 21st-ranked Arkansas women's basketball team last night. The Hogs held Lamar to 17 points on 17.2% shooting in the second half in their 63-50 win to stay undefeated.

Chrissy Carr led the Razorbacks with 18 points, while Saylor Poffenbarger and Samara Spencer each had 17 (there it is again!). Poffenbarger's team-high 12 rebounds helped her record a second straight double-double.

Arkansas will shoot for 12-0 this Sunday at 3pm with a home game against Arkansas State. Watch the game on SEC Network.

> KEEPING THE TREND. Three freshmen for Arkansas football have been named to the Freshmen All-SEC Team. Linebacker Chris Paul Jr., defensive back Quincey McAdoo and long snapper Eli Stein become the latest first-year players to make the list for the Razorbacks. The program has had multiple freshmen make the list in all three years since Sam Pittman was hired as head coach.

Watch McAdoo make multiple game-impacting plays in his debut against Liberty on HogsPlus.com.

> LEAD BY EXAMPLE. The Hogs are going bowling once more thanks to phenomenal seasons from their best players. Here's how a few of them stacked up to their SEC counterparts in 2022.

  • Rocket Sanders was second in both rushing yards (1,426) and rushing yards per game (118.83) among all SEC running backs, but he did lead the conference in total yards from scrimmage with 1,697. That's an average of 141.4 yards per game!
  • KJ Jefferson was second among SEC quarterbacks this season in passer rating (165.29), tied for second in yards per attempt (8.7), and third in completion percentage (68.3%).
  • Drew Sanders was behind just one SEC defender in the sacks column this year as he registered 9.5 quarterback takedowns. He was also third in the conference in tackles for loss (13.5).
Sanders' incredible season also earned him second-team Walter Camp All-America honors this week. Click here to read more.

> GET PUMPED UP! Because Nick Smith Jr. is back on the court and beginning to show the college basketball world why he is a projected lottery pick.

Hear from Anthony Black and Kamani Johnson on what makes him special on the court, and see the highlights the freshman phenom has already created this season, only on HogsPlus.com.

> BATTLE OF REDS. For the second straight year, Arkansas men's basketball will take on Oklahoma in The Crimson and Cardinal Classic. The game's central location of Tulsa, OK is 116 miles west of Fayetteville, and 125 miles northeast of Norman.

The recent history between the programs has been pretty equal, with Arkansas winning three of the past five meetings, but the Hogs are 5-1 all-time against the Sooners on neutral courts.

As the No. 9 team in the AP Poll, the Razorbacks come into the game 7-1 on the year, with wins in their last four games. Catch tip-off at 12pm tomorrow afternoon on ESPN2.

Seeing what's next. Q and Z take a look ahead to the Hog basketball team’s matchup with Oklahoma, and discuss how a season-ending injury to Trevon Brazile will impact this team moving forward in today's episode of The Razorback Daily.
