As a Junior (2003): Heather Schlichtman was a big part of the Lady'Back success as the ace of the pitching staff. Schlichtman holds school records for season earned run average (0.93 in 2001) and career ERA (1.57). She holds the single-season mark for wins (26, 2001), shutouts in a season (11, 2001) and career (20) and strikeouts in a game (15, 2001). She finished the year ranked fifth in SEC-only games in strikeouts (97), third in batters struck out looking (37), tied for third in appearances (23) and fifth in innings pitched (116.1). She is a standout not only as a pitcher but as the tallest player to don the Cardinal and White for the softball team. Schlichtman led the pitchers in every major category last season, including 178 strikeouts, 195.1 innings, 29 games started, 18 complete games, a 2.51 ERA and holding opposing hitters to a .228 batting average. The remarkable part is that she was able to accomplish this after back surgery at the start of her junior season. The senior is on pace to break the school career records for wins, strikeouts and games started. Schlichtman had ten strikeouts against Texas Tech, Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Kentucky. Against Kansas, she threw a complete-game one-hitter while sitting down eight Jayhawks in the 5-1 Arkansas victory. For the season, her .973 fielding percentage included ten putouts and 62 assists. Besides leading Arkansas on the mound, Schlichtman was an offensive spark in April. In 23 at-bats she had ten hits, including a home run to lead the Lady'Backs with a .435 batting average. Against LSU, she was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI in the 6-5 Arkansas triumph. Schlichtman returns to the mound to lead the team as one of three captains for the Lady'Backs
As a Sophomore (2002): Schlichtman became the first pitcher in school history to throw two no-hitters in a single season and in a career. She is also the first to throw a no-no at home and the first to record a no-hitter against an SEC opponent. She helped Arkansas finish the year ranked second in the conference in team earned run average with a 1.60 mark and set several game, season and career marks. Schlichtman's first no-hitter came in a 4-0 win over Boston College at the Texas A&M Invitational. Her second no-hitter was at home against Auburn - a feat that earned her SEC Pitcher of the Week honors. In addition to Schlichtman's mound duties, she hit .200, recording her first home run - a solo shot in a win at Ole Miss.
As a Freshman (2001): Schlichtman earned all-SEC honors with a school-record 0.93 ERA. She set single-season records for ERA (0.93), strikeouts (203), shutouts (11) and wins (26) and finished in the top five in several SEC categories. She set a school record for wins and holds the single-game mark for strikeouts with 15 against Wichita State at the Golden Panther Invitational. Schlichtman was third in ERA, fourth in innings pitched (256.2), seventh in strikeouts (150), third in wins (26), second in appearances (47) and fourth in starts (34). Schlichtman finished the year tied for 22nd in the nation in ERA, helping Arkansas rank 17th as a team with a 1.21 team earned run average.
At Orange Park: A three-time all-conference, first-team all-area and Orange Park HS MVP, Schlichtman earned all-state honors in 1998 and 2000. In three seasons, Schlichtman posted a 44-6 record with 285 strikeouts in 139 innings with an ERA of 0.11. She tossed ten no-hitters in high school, including eight one-hitters as a senior, leading her team to the Final Four in 1998 and the Final Eight in 1999 and 2000. Schlichtman was a finalist for the state player of the year, a preseason all-American (Student Sports) and the 6A Softball Player of the Year as a senior. In addition to high school ball, Schlichtman's 16-and-under team was the 1997 NSA World Series runner-up and the World Series Champion in 1998 - a season in which she tallied 524 strikeouts, helping her team to a 44-3 record.
